Kauai Day 9 - Luau
Today was another day of relaxation around the Villas. I think all 18 of us made it to the pool at nearly the same time today. We had water fights and threw a football around and then basked in the sun in the beach chairs. It's so nice to have these quiet days when we can just veg out and not worry about being constantly on the go. We had some time to go to the Coconut Mall to shop for a little while, too. I left poorer than when I went in, but got some nice t-shirts and some Hawaiian music on CD to show for it. After shopping we headed over the Smith Family compound for our Luau. We got a tram ride around the property and then watched them dig the pig out of the Imu (oven). Dinner was FANTASTIC! Kalua Pig (pulled pork), teriyaki beef, fried rice, chicken, sweet and sour mahi mahi, salads, breads, fruit, dessert and probably a bunch of stuff I am forgetting. Oh...POI. (gross). The show was good too. My favourite parts were the fire dancers and the Tahitian hulas! Tomorrow's schedule includes surf lessons (not for me), beach time and then family pictures with our friend Nick (www.kauaiphoto.com). Our last week is winding down. :( I don't want to go. On a side note, my TAN IS PEELING. I'm not sure how that is possible, but it's true. Guess that means more sun for me before I come home!
